The State Auditor is the chief comptroller for the State. The Office is responsible for setting up a uniform computer accounting system. It issues payments authorized by agencies to people and companies who do business with the State. The State Auditor is also the chief payroll officer for the State. The Office also issues public benefit payments authorized by State agencies and State law. Last year, the Office issued over 840,000 payments.
The State Auditor's Office also prepares the Comprehensive Annual Financial Report of the State of Wyoming, so that the State's financial standing is transparent. The Report and the Popular Report can be accessed from this page.
The State Auditor's Office enters all legislative appropriations into its computer system.
Note: The State Auditor does not audit. That function is carried out by the Department of Audit.
15th Year Reporting Award
The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada has once again presented the Wyoming State Auditor's Office with the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for its Comprehensive Annual Financial Report for the fiscal year ended June 30, 2011.
The award is presented annually to government units and public employee retirement systems whose comprehensive annual financial reports (CAFRs) achieve the highest standards in government accounting and financial reporting.
